Company History

The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) Pipeline Company was established in 2002 as a consortium of international energy companies. The pipeline represents one of the most significant engineering achievements of the 21st century, connecting the Caspian Sea to the Mediterranean.

Since becoming operational in June 2006, the BTC pipeline has transported over 4.7 billion barrels of crude oil across Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey to world markets.

Key Milestones

  • 1993 - First agreement signed between Azerbaijan and Turkey
  • 2002 - BTC Co. established in London
  • 2003 - Construction begins
  • 2006 - Pipeline becomes operational
  • 2014 - 2 billionth barrel loaded at Ceyhan
